Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s clarify your confusions. Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions which most of our client asks.

Have a question in mind

Looking for more info? Send a question to the tour agent to find out more.

What is included in a typical one-day tour?

Most tours include round-trip transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle (car/van) and the services of an English-speaking driver/guide. Some premium packages may include lunch or entrance fees, but typically entry tickets are an extra cost.

How long does the tour last?

It is depending on your starting city (e.g., Kandy is shorter than Colombo).

Is it possible to visit both sites in one day?

Yes, it is the standard itinerary, but be prepared for a fast-paced and tiring day. Sigiriya involves a strenuous climb, so pace yourself.

Which site should I visit first?

Typically, tours visit Dambulla Cave Temple first (less strenuous, quicker visit) and then Sigiriya Rock Fortress later in the afternoon (around 3:30 PM) when the sun is less intense for the climb.

Are there any alternatives to climbing Sigiriya?

Yes. Many travelers choose to climb Pidurangala Rock instead. It's a slightly more challenging hike, but offers an incredible view of Sigiriya, is much less crowded, and the entrance fee is significantly lower

Are the sites crowded?

Most probably, especially Sigiriya, can be very crowded, particularly during peak tourist season (December to April). Be prepared for slow movement and queues on the stairs at Sigiriya.

Are meals included?

Generally, no. You will stop for lunch at a recommended restaurant, but the cost of the meal is usually not included in the tour price.

What should I wear for Sigiriya?

Since Sigiriya involves a steep climb with many steps, wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes. Use lightweight, breathable clothing (cotton or linen), a hat, and sunscreen. Bring plenty of water.

What is the dress code for Dambulla?

As a Buddhist temple, you must dress respectfully: shoulders and knees must be covered for both men and women. You will also need to remove your shoes and hat before entering the cave temples. Bringing socks is highly recommended, as the stone ground can get very hot.
